The 2016 Sununga Skim festival started out with smaller straight waves for the initial days of competition culminating with a solid swell for the final rounds on the last weekend of the waiting period.
Local hero Renato Lima earned himself the title this year walking away with first place followed by Blair Conklin in second place. Brazilian Pablo Marreco grabbed 3rd place while Perry Pruitt took 4th.

Sununga is one of the most anticipated events on the United Skim Tour for good reason. Perfect siders, the best skimmers in the world and a full week waiting period… whats not to like!?
This year it all boiled down to Leandro Azevedo and Blair Conklin once again. Unlike last year however, Blair had the edge this round and took the win in a heated final which you can see wave for wave at the end of the video.
With this victory Blair jumped to first place in the UST rankings. The next contest will be OBX!
Exile Skimboards team rider Blair Conklin took first place at Sununga the third stop of the United Skim Tour. Word on the beach is it was a tight Final against local hero Leandro and Blair barely edged him out.

Sununga Beach Skimboarding is just so epic. Here’s a video featuring some of Sununga locals and the the last swell of March 2015. The swell touched the coast of São Paulo and local surfers and skimboarders took advantage of it.
Brazillian photographer Andre Magarao has been capturing amazing skimboard photos for years now and this recent batch that were featured over at Exile Skimboards are epic. Angry used his artistic ability and some remote flashes to capture these breathtaking photos.
Who wants to go to Brazil? We sure as hell do for oh so many reasons and one of the main reasons being the epic sider at Sununga. Such a fun looking skimboard spot that we would love to shred.
Anwyays, enough about that. Checkout this summer session captured by Michele Alves in Brazil.

Recently I met the editor of The Mermaid Society, an Australian website for girls of the sea. Sally Mac found the Skim Mermaids Community on Instagram and asked me if I would like to become a contributor, with the desire of incorporating skimboarding into the mix.
Some of the site’s goals are to make it a high level, highly respected go-to site for all things women’s beach sports and culture. A forum of opinion pieces and reviews from women around the world, as well as promoting talented athletes, artists, musicians and academics.
Of course I couldn’t resist and from our conversations, Skimboarding Is The New Black manifested. I am looking forward to seeing where our collaboration takes us, in the meantime I hope my introduction story proves educational for those new to the sport and everyone is feeling represented.
