Word on the beach was Kayotics Skimboards was gone. That is not the case and we took a couple minutes to talk with the man himself John Minns.
Seems like Kayotics kinda dropped off for a minute there. Is Kayotics really back?
We never left. We had a few years where most our original crew was just not able to skim. I think maybe a big part of it was people just expected me personally to keep dropping video parts and riding contests. I think most people make the association as I’ve carried this thing on my back for over 10 years. All my original crew were all growing out of skimboarding and getting real jobs. Hahaha. I think we just needed some time to re-focus and renew our crew and come back at it stronger than before.
Will Kayotics have a skim team again? If so, who’s on it this year?
We have now separated our team into Team and Legends/Pioneers. I want to make sure the young guns are on a come up and we can showcase them more in video and photos but I also want to make sure we don’t forget the dudes that brought us here. Our Sacramento contingency is on fire with Ruben Guttierez, JD Brown and Trey Conley. Those kids are killing it right now and I see the same passion in them for skimboarding as I did with the original crew down there. In Canada we are finalizing some things with Jack Bender in Ontario so it will be rad to get some love out east. On the west coast we have Oscar Blyth, Connor Broadfoot and Martin Jeffereys. Kayotics has Texas scene and helped get it go- ing with Carey Seyler when they were just getting started so we are continuing to work with riders down there. We currently are sponsoring Nick Reeves who is always dropping some great content. We are also working with Mitchell Lyon who is recovering from an injury but should be dropping some heat this summer I’m sure. When it comes to a team our focus remains the same. We want cool rad dudes who party and skim just like we’ve always done. We’ve been the industry badasses and I don’t want that to stop.

What can we expect to see from Kayotics in 2015?
Just more content. Our team will be shooting video and photos all season. We don’t have any major motion picture in mind yet but we’ll stack content and drop some bombs throughout the season. Just shorts on instagram and stuff to keep the skim fiends dosed up. The focus is easy for Kayotics and we’ll continue to follow the same recipe. Stoked for the new posse to carry on the legacy of skim, travel and party, in no preferred order.
What is the best way for people to snag some new Kayotics gear?
Always clutch to support your local retailers. If your local retailers don’t slang Kay- otics decks then ask them why. If they still don’t want to carry it tell them they are blowing it. Alternatively you can always buy online at www.kayotics.com.
