On Saturday, May 22, 2010, the first stage of the first official Dutch Skimboarding Championship was held in Zandvoort, the Holland Skim Jam. Despite the weather, which was especially in the beginning quite a let down there was a very large turnout with 28 participants in the waveskim and 12 in the flatlandcompetition. Nice detail was that there were some foreign skimboarders in the contest too, from France, Germany, Aruba and St. Maarten.
In the morning there was a camera crew of the national television newsstation on the beach present to report it. Same day, the Holland Skim Jam on television in childrens part of the news they reported about this. A replay of the broadcast can be found here .
The day started with waveskim competition, unfortunately the waves were disastrous and it was halfway through the second round when we decided to finish the rest of the heats at low tide. Fortunately, this was a good choice, the waves were still not that good but already much better than in the morning. After several exciting heats results were as follows:
1. Detant Guillaume / France
2. Jermo Long / Netherlands
3. Erwin Bostelaar / Netherlands
4. Richard de Ruijter / Netherlands
Between the two halves of waveskim, the flatland competition was held. The number of participants was smaller, but the level was very high. Due to the high level and the small difference between the competitors performance the competition was very exciting and it was beautiful to watch. The results were as follows:
1. Adrien Raza / Netherlands
2. Benjamin Nagel / Germany
3. Jermo Long / Netherlands
4. Friedrich Fluh / Germany
Thanks to the friendly atmosphere between the good organization of Arjan and Bob, the judging of the DSA, the high turnout and the sponsors, Van den Berg, Color Skimboarding Apparel, Hajopai, DB skimboards, Skyline 13 and Red Bull is the day a great success. Thanks everyone!
