We got the opportunity to shoot off some questions to DB Skimboards team rider Emile Panerio.
Read on…
What’s your name?
Emile Panerio
Where are you from?
University Place Washington
How old are you?
17
How long have you been skimming?
6 years
Where do you skim normally?
Dashpoint state park and Chambers Creek, which are my local Tacoma spots and I try to visit Bellingham Bay every once in a while.
Who do you skim with?
Usually the teammates, aka the DBskimboards crew.
What is your favorite part of skimboarding?
Just riding with friends for fun.
Where have you traveled to skimboard?
Sacremento, Laguna, All over BC, Oregon, Maui, Cabo, Bellingham, Eastern Washington
Where do you want to travel to skim?
I’d love to travel to wave spots more often like Laguna and Cabo. It also be cool to see the flatland scene in Germany, a couple guys have sent DB some footy from riding down there and looks pretty fun.
What board(s) do you ride?
DB “proto” shape, only the best!
Do you compete?
I do.
If so, what competitions have you competed in?
The Summer before last I placed first in the 16u divisions of the Dash point comp, Chambers Creek Comp and the Stratos Universal Comp in Whiterock, BC. This last year i was recovering from a broken pelvis, but i still was able to compete in skimfest down in sac-town, I made the finals, but didn’t place.
And what are some of your contest highlights?
I think anytime I’m in a final with other DB team-mates, its a blast, were alwasys all pushing eachother, and a little competition is always good.
Do you have any sponsors? What companies?
DBskimboards and Northwest Riders.
What other board sports do you partake in?
I skate, snowboard, wakeboard, longboard, surf, but I’d say skating and snowboarding are the biggies.
What skimboarding goals do you have?
I think just to suprise people with progressive and clean riding, I think the complexity of tricks is narrowing down, so riders with good style and creative riding will stand out this summer.
Where do you see the skimboarding going in the future?
I think its unrealistic to visualize inland skimboarding as a main stream sport like skating or snowboarding anytime soon. However, I see it definitely getting bigger; seeing interest from other countries bares witness to inland’s progression. I hope bigger companies getting involved in the near future.
What riders influenced your skimboarding?
Fellow team DB riders like Isaac Thomas and Richard Docter as well as Matt Ratoni have inspired me a lot as far as flatland, however I look up to some of the big wave riders like Paulo and Bill B, just as much if not more so.
What riders are pushing the sport right now?
Isaac Thomas, Matt Head, Minns, all have big, technical and clean style, these guys are pushing it.
If you were stranded on a desert island that already has a plentiful resource of skimboards what three things
would you bring?
A Nalgene and 2 big macs.
What is the best advice you can give to a skim grom trying to get recognized?
Don’t be cocky and make your tricks clean, big tricks mean nothing if they’re ugly.
