Welcome to the first in a three part series featuring the flatland skimboarding contests in Utah, Washington and Poland. Thanks to RailWerx, Zed Skimboards, DB Skimboards, Konar Pro Skimboards, SeventyOne, Sandy Crack Skimboards, Skimbowl, Extreme Outdoor Supply, SkimZone.com and SkimMagazine.com for sponsoring the series.
The Virgin River Classic went down on June 29th, 2013 in St. George, Utah. A couple hundred spectators checked out the contest throughout the day and there were over 30 competitors.
“There was a great turnout for the Virgin River Classic this year. A lot of DB riders made the trip from Washington and competed. Everyone rode super well and had fun,” said Utah local Addison Michael Foote. “Local Utah rider Cody Maurer stood out to me as he consistently landed some huge tricks. Overall the Classic was a blast this year and I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn’t made the trip out to Utah yet.”
Richard Docter gave me all of his photos from the contest and I put together this magazine while flying to Europe for the DB Skimboards European Tour (or adventure as I like to call it). Since I had photos of the DB Pro/AM and was going to take photos of the Polish Skimboarding Open it seemed like the perfect opportunity to create a contest series for Flatland Magazine.
I hope you enjoy the issue and thanks for reading. – Matt McDonald | Flatland Magazine Editor
