Meet 29-year old skimboarder, Marcin Siegel, from Gliwice, Poland.
How long have you been skimming?
I have bought my first board sth like 8 years ago and skimmed it for 1 week and forgot about it. I have started skimming 3 years ago – but it is last 2 years, that I deal with it in serious way.
Where do you skim normally?
Pławniowice Lake, POLAND
Who do you skim with?
Usually alone. Nevertheless, if possible, I do take some friends with me.
What is your favorite skim spot?
Skimpark Sopot, POLAND
Where have you traveled to skimboard?
Around Poland (please check my edit from this summer –> http://youtu.be/dlAVetkFfmk )
Where do you want to travel to skim?
Around the World (Philippines, USA, Brasil, Australia, everywhere, where there are people with passion for skimboard)
What board(s) do you ride?
Used to ride on KONAR Pro Skimboards. Currently I am riding SKIMBOWL (my sponsor)
Do you wave skim? Flatland? Both?
Flatland (never had opportunity to wave, but wouldn’t mind at all 🙂
Do you compete?
Yes – perfect opportunity to progress
If so, what competitions have you competed in?
Polish Skimboarding Open, Świder Skimboarding Contest, Red Bull SkimIt
And what are some of your contest highlights?
I have never been on podium, but nearly reached it in amateur class at Świder Skimboarding Contest this year.
My edits:
Do you have any sponsors? What companies?
Yes, SKIMBOWL (www.skimbowl.com)
What other board sports do you partake in?
Snowboard, sport climbing
Where do you see the skimboarding going in the future?
Flatland is becoming very creative as far as jibbing is concerned. One can see strong snowboard influence, so I think that in the future water will be just a start-point and structures will grow in size.
What riders influenced your skimboarding?
none
What riders are pushing the sport right now?
Arien Raza, Logan Davidson, Blake Zimmerman, Isaac Thomas
If you were stranded on a desert island that already has a plentiful resource of skimboards what three things would you bring?
Besides skimboard: Bible, knife and sunglasses 8]
What makes you happy?
Good weather, freedom and nature
If everyone rode a skimboard would the world be a better place?
Of course not, it is not the skimboard that makes people (or world) better. But still, even though not being mainstream is very big advantage of skimboard, it would be nice to have some professional skimparks, which inevitably are a product of commercialization.
What skimboarding goals do you have?
Progress, progress and have fun
What is your favorite skimboarding trick?
flatland: air bigspin (high pop)
jib: boardslide frontside bigspin out
kicker: late flip
Last words? Shout outs?
My motto: “keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord” Romans 12:11
Which means for me, that if you do something, do it with passion, otherwise it will not give you enough pleasure and you will not have enough stamina to progress.
