Riley Davis and Matt Reading made the trip from Washington State to Sacramento for the annual Skimfest. We had the opportunity to talk with Riley and throw out some questions to see how the trip was.
What made you decide to go to skimfest?
We wanted to come down to Sacramento for Skimfest because that’s all we ever hear about when we go to other comps during the summer. We always hear about how big the skim scene is down here so we wanted to come check it out first hand. We also have a buddy that lives here whom we don’t get to see too often, so we’d stayed and chilled with him.
How long did the trip take you?
We left at 3am from Everett and arrived in Sac just a little after 4pm, so about 13 hours-ish including gas/food stops.
How was the trip to Skimfest?
The drive was OK until we got to Cali cuz we didn’t have air conditioning in our car so we were dying for a bit. The actual trip itself has been really good so far. We are only half way done though, still gotta make it home.
What are some of the highlights of the contest?
Ultimately the large a-frame. It was a kicker to a house type rail which you’ll see in a lot of pics for sure.
How many people were there?
I’m estimating a couple hundred, give or take at certain points.
Where did people travel from to get to the contest?
The majority of the people there were locals, but there were riders there from Washington and BC.
What prominent riders were there?
Isaac Thomas, Logan Davidson, Tim Ladner, Brent Lippencott and Matt Ratoni.
How was the competition overall?
The competition was really awesome and the crowd was into the comp the whole time. It was interesting to see the different styles used in different places.
What riders stood out in the contest?
ALL the pro/advanced riders were killing it…
What were the contest highlights?
Lots of people going really big. Brent doing a huge shuv mute grab from the big kicker to the a-frame. Emile hitting big tricks consistently all day. Skim Louie doing varial kickflips. Everyone was just going big all day. great comp.
