New video! Spanish Banks with DB Skimboards

DB Skimboards just released a brand new skimboard video featuring some rad drone action from a skim jam at Spanish Banks, British Columbia for a skim jam. Spanish Banks looks like one of the best flatland skim spots in the world and we would love to hit that place up. Two notable skimboarders in this video are BC local Devin Poulton and flatland pro Isaac Thomas.

Be on the lookout next year for the Spanish Banks Skim Jam that takes the on August 20th at noon at Spanish Banks East!

TROPICAL POPSICLE: New Skimboard Movie!

DB Skimboards team rider Devin Poulton just dropped a new video featuring skimboarding in White Rock, British Columbia. Kevin works full-time and is a dad, so he doesn’t have that much time to get out to the beach and film. He did manage to meet-up with Kyle Lynch to film this rad new skimboard film titled “Tropical Popsicle.”

Kyle Lynch did all the filming for this video and Devin took on the editing. Kyle also did the amazing artwork featured in this video.

Kayotics Skimboards is back!

kayotics-01

Word on the beach was Kayotics Skimboards was gone. That is not the case and we took a couple minutes to talk with the man himself John Minns.

Seems like Kayotics kinda dropped off for a minute there. Is Kayotics really back?

We never left. We had a few years where most our original crew was just not able to skim. I think maybe a big part of it was people just expected me personally to keep dropping video parts and riding contests. I think most people make the association as I’ve carried this thing on my back for over 10 years. All my original crew were all growing out of skimboarding and getting real jobs. Hahaha. I think we just needed some time to re-focus and renew our crew and come back at it stronger than before.

Will Kayotics have a skim team again? If so, who’s on it this year?
We have now separated our team into Team and Legends/Pioneers. I want to make sure the young guns are on a come up and we can showcase them more in video and photos but I also want to make sure we don’t forget the dudes that brought us here. Our Sacramento contingency is on fire with Ruben Guttierez, JD Brown and Trey Conley. Those kids are killing it right now and I see the same passion in them for skimboarding as I did with the original crew down there. In Canada we are finalizing some things with Jack Bender in Ontario so it will be rad to get some love out east. On the west coast we have Oscar Blyth, Connor Broadfoot and Martin Jeffereys. Kayotics has Texas scene and helped get it go- ing with Carey Seyler when they were just getting started so we are continuing to work with riders down there. We currently are sponsoring Nick Reeves who is always dropping some great content. We are also working with Mitchell Lyon who is recovering from an injury but should be dropping some heat this summer I’m sure. When it comes to a team our focus remains the same. We want cool rad dudes who party and skim just like we’ve always done. We’ve been the industry badasses and I don’t want that to stop.

What can we expect to see from Kayotics in 2015?
Just more content. Our team will be shooting video and photos all season. We don’t have any major motion picture in mind yet but we’ll stack content and drop some bombs throughout the season. Just shorts on instagram and stuff to keep the skim fiends dosed up. The focus is easy for Kayotics and we’ll continue to follow the same recipe. Stoked for the new posse to carry on the legacy of skim, travel and party, in no preferred order.

What is the best way for people to snag some new Kayotics gear?
Always clutch to support your local retailers. If your local retailers don’t slang Kay- otics decks then ask them why. If they still don’t want to carry it tell them they are blowing it. Alternatively you can always buy online at www.kayotics.com.

Sunset skimboard session with Devin Poulton at Balmers

devin-skimboarding011

Spring is upon us in part of the world and that means so is skimboarding season. It’s been a very warm winter in the Pacific Northwest that has enabled skimboarders in British Columbia to start skimboarding without wetsuits a bit earlier than normal.

Here’s some skimboard photos of Devin Poulton and Thomas Bell captured at Balmer’s Beach in British Columbia during a sunset skim session. We are stoked that Thomas has a new camera and can’t wait to see more skimboarding photos in the future!

Skimboarding Photo: Anthony Davis Sequence

fb-flash-back-friday

A skimboarding photo sequence of Conspiracy Skimboards owner and rider Anthony Davis in White Rock, British Columbia. This is a throwback photo sequence we put together from the 2012 KYDA Skimboards Jam in White Rock.

We have heard rumblings of more skimboard jams going down in the Vancouver area of British Columbia. Beaches that have been mentioned are White Rock, Wreck Beach and Spanish Banks. The summer of 2015 skimboarding events on the west coast of North America could be big this year with riders traveling from Europe and other parts of the world to attend contests also. It’s great to see skimboarding still going strong when half of the world is enduring winter.

Skimboarding Is The New Black

Skimboarding Is The New Black - Story by Kelli Bean on http://themermaidsociety.com.au

Photo by Fabiana Badie of Casey Kiernan, our 2014 SkimUSA and United Skim Tour Womens Pro Champion!

Recently I met the editor of The Mermaid Society, an Australian website for girls of the sea. Sally Mac found the Skim Mermaids Community on Instagram and asked me if I would like to become a contributor, with the desire of incorporating skimboarding into the mix.

Some of the site’s goals are to make it a high level, highly respected go-to site for all things women’s beach sports and culture. A forum of opinion pieces and reviews from women around the world, as well as promoting talented athletes, artists, musicians and academics.

Of course I couldn’t resist and from our conversations, Skimboarding Is The New Black manifested. I am looking forward to seeing where our collaboration takes us, in the meantime I hope my introduction story proves educational for those new to the sport and everyone is feeling represented.
